I have two copies of "Story" to ensure it is always nearby. It may be helpful to think of each chapter as a separate vignette of knowledge. Don't have a Kindle? The fact that this is his opinion and an audience's taste might differ from his own, is never mentioned. On a side note, the slip cover is absolutely awful. It also has helpful tips to aid the writing process. There's a reason works like Hamlet, Casablanca, and Star Wars all have an endearing quality. Out of a dozen or so books on writing, I found McKee's "Story" thoroughly enlightening. I hope authors writing today would use a multitude of pronouns to acknowledge the reality that in life and fiction there's more gender than one.

Furthermore, he made very forceful statements that left little tolerance for different approaches or opinions.
He does so in very generalized, sweeping statements. A must read as the complete bible of the craft. The This was a long read — started this in June. I know, I've witnessed it myself.

In some ways the book is usefull, I think it gives pretty accurate analysis of turning points and different types of screenplays and genres, some other things maybe Inspiring, clear and all-encompasing. Only trail and error can do that.

I am finding that I produce my best, most satisfying work when I bounce back and forth between the two approaches. And don't kid yourself: He includes a disclaimer at the beginning of the book stating that it is only for grammatical correctness and clarity, but considering the gender disparity that exists both in screenwriters and protagonists in Hollywood, I found it to be a poor choice.
McKee's seminal text can do is help you focus and give structure to how you compile your screenplay; his central notion that plot is character and character is plot although he's not the first to suggest this is the heart of what he's conveying, and you can learn from this or whole-heartedly disagree.
