If anyone is looking for a war general I am available and well versed in war tactics due to this book. So, learning how to avoid a war, and if you have to do it, learning how to carry it out with the fewer loss of human lives of both sides of the conflictalways is a relevant topic. Translated from a standard collection of commentaries on Sun Wa text by eleven interpreters, the work has been edited by Thomas Cleary to bring out the meaning of the principles of strategy.

The translations, by the renowned translator Thomas Cleary, have all been published previously in book form, except for The Silver Sparrow Art of War, which is available here for the first time. Takes all the fun out of reading a bad book.
I am quite surprised I finished this book. Also by Thomas Cleary.
A lot of it, however, was about how to fight on different types of terrain. There are five types of books: You could learn something from it. But it became clear to me after quite a few pages that The Art of War really is about fighting a war no matter what other people might interpret it to be.

It is the cor coriculum in many war colleges including West Point. Military professionals, sure; executives, probably — wanna be executives, almost certainly; sports coaches, law enforcement vleary, school teachers, teenage gamers, etc etc. While these examples lend credence to how the Chinese military treatise has been implemented over the years, I was more interested in the original text than the interpretations of it.
So, I'm pretty sure I missed the vast majority of wisdom by doing it this way.

I feel like a badass now, and that's all that's important. Sun Tzu has been translated and interpreted countless times by people with little knowledge of true combat reality on either the physical or mental level.
Now back to my regularly scheduled reading. Sometimes, reading books about war tactics or novels of the genre of war, is confused with glorify wars, or, death and all sad things that are results of a war. Despite the title, the text I don't know if I should call it a primer is more concerned with nonviolent strategy: So I'm glad I got to read it, but I'm not sure it inspired me to action or to think differently about the world.
