Intended as an introduction to geochemistry - an increasingly important part of earth science, this book emphasizes the application of geochemistry to geologic problems - presenting carefully selected examples from actual field and laboratory studies.
When the Great Depression made jobs in chemistry scarce, Infroduction Krauskopf decided to study geology, which had long fascinated him. The plan of the book is to review, at a moderately advanced level, those topics from elementary geology to which chemical ideas may be usefully applied.
Students should be cautioned that the book is more than its title implies, an introduction to an enormously complex subject. His research interests included field work on granites and metamorphic rocks and laboratory study on applications of chemistry to geologic problems, especially the formation of ore deposits.
